Vehicle description:
The 740.NP diesel locomotive (in our case locomotive no. 740.665-6 or 740.675-4) was the product of a partial upgrade of the original 740 class, the biggest alteration being the installation of a “low front section”. The bogie assembly, underframe, driver’s cab and engine hood are essentially taken from the original 740 class locomotive. The original rear hood has been replaced with a new, much lower, one. The adjoining face of the driver’s cab has been newly fitted with a wide windshield with perfect visibility.

The changes predetermine this locomotive for use primarily in track service or for shunting in situations where there is an emphasis on enhanced operational safety (for example an increased need for perfect driver visibility owing to the siding being located in a rugged and demanding environment with concurrent operation of the siding and other factory transport). The locomotive has also been fitted with extras such as Autoclima air conditioning and a Mesit TT43.1 speedometer over and above the original specification. Modifications have also been made to the air brake gear, and there are other changes linked with the installation of the lowered front section. The locomotive is designed for medium-heavy shunting and track service, primarily on industrial railways, in the options defined in the loading diagram.
