Vehicle description:
In the year 2000, ČMKS produced another reconstructed version of the 710 class: locomotive 711.501, which is a simplified version of locomotive 711.703 without an EDB and with a Liaz M 1.2C. The 711.501 locomotive is a cab-behind-engine unit with a turret cab (taken from the 724 class), with diagonal driver’s posts and forward-sloping front windshields. The underframe is fitted with 60 mm thick buffer beams and spacious platforms with flights of steps leading up to the catwalk. As the EDB has been omitted, both hoods slope downwards towards the ends of the locomotive, further improving the visibility from the driver’s cab. Mounted in the front hood is a Liaz M 1.2C diesel engine, flange-coupled to a Siemens Drásov 1FC2 traction alternator.
The engine water is cooled by a radiator mounted at the forward end of the front hood. The 3 DSK 100 compressor is driven, via an EKA 250 electromagnetic connector, by V-belts from a pulley on the free end of the traction alternator. Mounted in the rear hood is a TE 005 traction motor, which drives a new mechanical downward gearbox via a cardan shaft. The other parts of the drive (cardan shafts and axle gearboxes) are original. The brake is a DAKO-GP system with a BSE brake valve with electronic controllers for the automatic brake and a DAKO-BP direct-acting brake valve. The main air reservoirs and switchboard air reservoir are suspended directly in the frame of the rear hood. Locomotive 711.501 was built in the first half of 2000. A similar version with a 315 kW Caterpillar 3406 engine is also in the construction pipeline.
